Online Video: Crash Course in Not-So-Literal Messaging

How many times have we seen the seatbelt safety crash simulation – slo mo crumpled steel and shattered glass.   The modern audience is a jaded bunch, we have -seen it all-.  So what does it take visually to shake people from their complacency.  The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership in the UK took a different approach.  Take a look.  I have to admit in the early going, I thought it was a tad high on the cheese meter, but this piece builds and overcomes melodrama with a single effective idea.   It tells a story and makes parents everywhere think about consequences.  Do you think it is effective or overly saturated with melodrama?

    Hi Mike,

Great point about this video. My father, who is a fire captain in Sudbury Ontario, sent me this link today and is using it in an auto safety demonstration.

I think the simplicity of the video makes it highly effective, because the message is clear and very memorable.

    Thank you for posting this!
