Online Video: iPad Has/Needs Some Competition

Maybe its still too fresh.  The launch of the iPad is still giving some tech geeks hot flashes. Leaving others cold.

But competition is (news flash) a good thing.   Today (April 5th) HP was boasting on its Voodoo blog that their entry into the tablet market will fill holes the iPad will apparently, at least in the short term, leave vacant.

–HP’s Voodoo blog/April 5th:

“Think about the last time you chatted with friends over Skype on your notebook. Or uploaded a picture from your mobile phone to Facebook or Flickr. How about the last time you viewed images or video from an SD card or a USB device. We know that you expect to be able to capture and share digital content on your mobile devices. And the HP slate device excels there.”

For anyone with the need, or lust for a tablet, its all, as the kids say, good.

Several hardware makers are lining up in the gate.  And today, with the runaway success of devices such as the Blackberry, it might be harder, to get a head start.

The most important thing is that we are creating (or fulfilling, save debate for another time) a need for visuals.   Whether its the iPad or HP Slate or any of the others, text won’t be enough.   People will demand faster, easier access to their multimedia and online video.  And if that requires a  USB port, you better offer it.
